I do not know how many of you know that today, Italy celebrated for the first time, the " National Day of Innovation "established with the objective of ensuring an annual moment of reflection to take stock of the state of innovation in Country and share the strategic objectives to be achieved.

The Innovation Day was not celebrated on government websites, or in schools or in universities but in a conference entitled "Innovation for growth and quality of life" in the presence of the Minister for Innovation, Renato Brunetta and of his predecessor, Luigi Nicolais. On this occasion, was presented the 2008 Innovation Report anual COTEC edited by the Foundation, which indicated emerge "structural delays of our national system of innovation." The analyzes contained in the report are of great interest but do not need tables to understand that in Italy we do not invest enough in research and development, which is on supporting innovative companies and that there is little use of ICT in Public Administration.

Too bad that, once again, the analyzes on the current situation does not accompany the proposals, objectives, perhaps, deserved a celebration so grandiose, the delays are the result of the absence of structural innovation policy series, appropriate and farsighted.

In our country initiatives in innovation, but few cases are sporadic and are usually carried out other than in respect to organizational goals of the PA, just think of the recent proposal to digitalize medical prescriptions that, out of a reorganization telematicha whole system, has the sole purpose of monitoring the performance of health spending.

True innovation must permeate all sectors of society systematically, by increasing the culture digirale which is a necessary precondition for the competitiveness of the free enterprise system, to increase ll'efficienza public administration and improve the quality of services it has provided.
Innovation for growth and quality of life, indeed.
